108 feet statue of Adi Shankaracharya to be unveiled in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to unveil the 108 feet tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya in the holy temple town of Omkareshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, on September 18.
Situated on the picturesque banks of the Narmada River, Omkareshwar is about 80 km from the bustling city of Indore. It is seen as a global center for Advaita Vedanta philosophy, which was famously advocated by Adi Shankaracharya.
The construction of this grand statue on Mandhata Mountain marks the beginning of the first phase of this ambitious development project.
Adi Shankaracharya’s journey is full of mythology and spiritual significance. He started on the path of renunciation at an early age. This took him to Omkareshwar, where he spent four years under the tutelage of his guru Govinda Bhagavadpada and received intensive education.
Apart from the impressive statue, Omkareshwar is set to undergo further development to enrich its cultural and spiritual heritage. Plans include the establishment of Advaita Lok, a museum dedicated to preserving and displaying the philosophical traditions of Advaita Vedanta.
