New Delhi: Around 96 per cent of Indian companies in the mid-market segment (250 to 1,500 employees) are preferring generative AI, while the figure is 91 per cent in the rest of the world, a report said on Friday.

The adoption of generative AI by Indian mid-market companies in 2024 is driven by the need to prepare the organization against cyber threats and make business operations more eco-friendly.

The report released by SAP India said that organizations in India are giving more priority to bringing changes in their business as compared to other countries of the world.

Manish Prasad, Managing Director and President, SAP Indian Subcontinent, said that India’s mid market business is the backbone of the country’s economy.

He further added, “AI is going to be a game-changer for these companies. It will give these companies insights to work on and help them move ahead in the digital economy.”

Among the mid-market companies that participated in the survey, 67 percent cited cyber attacks as the reason for prioritizing AI, 65 percent cited making operations environmentally sustainable, 55 percent cited privacy and security, and 52 percent cited enhancing decision-making capabilities.

Rajeev Singh, VP and Mid Market Head, SAP Indian Subcontinent, said AI has the potential to provide intelligence, insights, automation to an organisation, enabling it to compete globally.

The report further states that data is the biggest risk in AI because there is no transparency in the results of AI. In such a situation, acting on incorrect information obtained from AI is another big risk for organizations.
