Actor Abhishek Bachchan says it is always a pleasure working with his father megastar Amitabh Bachchan and all he looks for is the right script that helps deliver a memorable experience for the audience. Cinema icons Amitabh and Abhishek, 80, have worked together in Bunty Aur Babli, Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar, Sarkar Raj, Karan Johar’s relationship drama Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and filmmaker R Balki’s Paa. Paa, which featured the veteran actor in the role of Abhishek’s on-screen son who suffers from Progeria.

Abhishek said they love working together, but want to be responsible for their choices. As actors, we both enjoy working with each other. But as actors, we also understand the responsibility towards our audience. Because we’ve done such amazing, memorable work together, we want to keep it going. So, we wait for the right script and as soon as it happens, we are happy to work together.

The father-son duo will next share the screen in Balki’s upcoming feature Ghoomar. The film is inspired by the story of the late Hungarian right-handed shooter Károly Takács, who won two Olympic gold medals with his left hand after injuring his other hand.

Amitabh has been a constant in all the films directed by megastar Balki, including Cheeni Kum, Paa, Shamitabh, Ki and Ka, Padman and Chup: Revenge of the Artist. He will also be seen in a special appearance in Ghoomar. Balki doesn’t make films without my father, he is his lucky charm. So, even if it is for one shot (he will take it). This is a recurring theme and it is the same in this film as well.

Abhishek, 47, said his debut performance at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in 2005 on the hit chartbuster track Kajra Re holds a special place in his heart. Abhishek performed on the song Bunty Aur Babli along with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and father Amitabh Bachchan. We went to Amsterdam. I remember when Shamik (Davar) was choreographing, we did the whole act and we ended it with Kajra Re. The song is from the movie Bunty Aur Babli which released the week before IIFA. We all thought it would be wonderful to see Aishwarya and me performing and it was a very smart decision to pull Dad from the audience. It was wonderful. It is such a special and memorable moment. I’m glad we could do this.

The actor, who is set to host the 23rd edition of IIFA Awards on Sunday in Yas Island, said he believes in being dignified and respected on stage. When you are hosting there is a huge responsibility, we have to ensure that we celebrate our cinema in the most appropriate, dignified and respectful manner. I’m not someone who likes to dig into other people. I get that wrong, so you won’t see that much. Do stuff that’s entertaining, keep it light and keep the audience engaged.

On the film front, Abhishek will also be seen in the Hindi remake of Nikkhil Advani-backed 2019 Tamil comedy drama KD and Shoojit Sircar’s untitled slice-of-life drama, which will begin shooting in August. Shoojit is a dear friend. I have known him since the beginning of his career, when he was in advertising. I am happy and honored to work with him. I have a lot of love and respect for him.
