Akash Madhwal: Army man father will be very happy to see Akash Madhwal’s success from above, had taken transfer due to fear of cricket

New Delhi: It is about 2010, due to the future of the children, Late Ghananand Madhwal got his transfer done from Roorkee to Nainital. He was afraid that the cricket bug might ruin the 10th board result of his younger son Akash. Now after 13 years, the wheel of time has turned again for the Madhwal family. That cricket bug has now done its job. 29-year-old Akash Madhwal has bowled the best bowling figure in IPL playoff history. Five wickets for five runs in 3.3 overs. Due to this killer bowling, Mumbai Indians were thrown out of IPL by defeating Lucknow Supergiants by 81 runs in the Eliminator. Now the team is just one win away from the final. Akash’s elder brother Ashish says, ‘We both loved cricket, but Akash’s passion was different. I used to play just for fun, but there was a different passion within. Our father used to be very troubled by this habit. Later he took a transfer from Roorkee to Nainital so that both of us brothers could focus on studies. I was in 12th and Akash was in 10th.

Akash’s father was an officer in the Military Engineer Services (MES). Akash lost him at a very young age, after which his focus completely shifted to studies. During this, he also started working as a site engineer in Roorkee. When Uttarakhand got BCCI recognition, Akash impressed Wasim Akram during the trials in Dehradun. Soon he got a chance in the senior team and then a year later Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him as a net bowler in the IPL. In 2022, Mumbai Indians included him in the replacement squad for Suryakumar Yadav. But didn’t get a chance to play.

At the Mumbai Indians camp, Akash Madhwal found an elder brother in Rohit Sharma, who always advised him, ‘Tu bindas daal’. Rohit Sharma always made me feel comfortable. I felt like I was playing for Uttarakhand only. Avtar Singh, under whose supervision Akash started playing cricket with a leather ball, says that he is a long race horse.
