America: Death toll from Hurricane Helen crosses 150
America’s South Carolina state Governor Henry McMaster said on Tuesday that 36 people have died in the state due to Hurricane Helen, taking the total number of people who lost their lives in this natural disaster in the country to 152.
McMaster announced three more deaths during a news conference in West Columbia, South Carolina. The storm caused massive destruction in the southeast after hitting the coast of Florida on Thursday. Nearly half the deaths occurred in North Carolina, while dozens more have died in South Carolina and Georgia.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said during a news conference on Monday that the death toll in the state had increased from 17 to 25. 30 people are feared dead in Asheville.
President Biden said he will visit Raleigh and conduct an aerial survey of Asheville. He said he planned to visit hurricane-affected areas in Georgia and Florida “as soon as possible.” Former President Donald Trump has criticized the Biden administration for its handling of the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Helen.
