Madaripur Deputy Commissioner Rahima Khatoon said bodies of 14 people were recovered from the spot, but three others died on the way to the hospital. According to the Deputy Commissioner, many of the injured were in critical condition and were admitted to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment, but doctors declared two more dead. It is believed that the bus went out of control after one of its tires got punctured, said Shiplu Ahmed, deputy assistant director of fire services and civil defense in Faridpur. Deputy Commissioner Rahima Khatoon said that a committee has been constituted to probe the incident and it will submit its report within two days. He said that 25,000 taka would be given to the families of the dead and 5,000 taka to the injured.
