What is Ayushman Bharat Scheme?

Ayushman Bharat Scheme (Ayushman Bharat Yojana) is a government scheme run by the Government of India whose objective is to provide the benefit of high quality medical services to the poor and needy sections. This scheme was announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the 2018 budget. Under this scheme, under the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the facility of medical allowance up to Rs 5 lakh is provided to the poor and needy sections across the country. Only reliable and diagnostic medical hospitals (Empaneled Hospitals) is added. Under this, the beneficiary is provided the benefit of various types of medical services like pediatrics, mother’s health, general medicine, orthopedics, specialist medicine, neurology, cardiology etc. This scheme is run through incorporated insurance companies of the Government of India, which cover the medical expenses of the beneficiaries of the scheme. This scheme is an effort of the Government of India so that the poor and needy sections can get maximum benefit of high quality medical services and help in improving their health.
