Chen Shu, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, delivered a joint speech on behalf of Egypt, South Africa, Bolivia, Pakistan and other developing countries at the UN Human Rights Council on September 15. He , called for the balanced promotion of various human rights, including social and cultural rights.
The joint speech stated that various human rights have equal importance and no one should be given preference. All parties should pursue constructive dialogue and cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and promote all human rights in a balanced manner. The joint statement stressed that currently economic, social and cultural rights are not given the same importance as the political rights of citizens.
Due to this, inequality is increasing further. The joint statement called on the United Nations to take the solution of the problems as a starting point and to correct historical injustices. The Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights should set an example.
