Davis Cup: Sumit Nagal gave India a 1-1 draw with a strong performance, Rohan Bopanna’s last match today
Davis Cup: India drew 1-1 against Morocco with Sumit Nagal’s spectacular victory in the Davis Cup match which started after 23 years in the capital Lucknow. India’s Shashi Kumar Mukund withdrew from the opening singles match against Morocco’s Yassin Dalimi at the Vijayant Khand Mini Stadium in Gomtinagar due to heat. After this, Sumit Nagal defeated Adam Mondir 6-3, 6-3 and brought India level at 1-1.

After Shashikumar Mukund’s defeat in the first match against Yasin Delimi earlier in the day, Sumit Nagal faced the challenge of big player Adam Mundir in the second singles match. Luck changed several times in the first set between the two players. In the fifth game, Sumit broke Mundir’s serve and took a 3-2 lead. The Moroccan player immediately made a comeback in the next game and leveled the match at 3-3. Sumit broke his service again in the seventh game and took a lead of 4-3.
Mundir made many mistakes during the game
Indian star Sumit maintained his serve in the eighth game and took the lead to 5-3. Mundir made some unforced errors due to a double fault and some powerful forehands from Sumit, due to which Sumit won the first set 6-3. After this, Mundir could not present any special challenge to the 26-year-old Indian player. Sumit then won the set and match 6-3, 6-3 with some big serves and forehand strokes.
Mukund had to withdraw from the match
Meanwhile, in the first men’s singles match, Mukund had to face defeat by 7-6 (4), 5-7, 1-4 against Morocco’s Yassin Delimi. Dilimi was leading 4-1 after both players won one set each in difficult conditions. However, Mukund was forced to retire due to cramps.
Match started late due to rain
The match got delayed due to rain which was to start at 2 pm. The match started with the opening ceremony which was attended by All India Tennis Association (AITA) President Anil Jain, AITA General Secretary Anil Dhupar, Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association President Navneet Sehgal, India’s great player Vijay Amritraj and other officials.
Rohan Bopanna’s last match today
Along with this, Rohan Bopanna will play his last Davis Cup match on Sunday. Bopanna, partnering with Yuki Bhambri, will play against Moroccan doubles pair of Benchetrit Elliot and Younes Lalami Laroussi. On the final day, Nagal will face Dilimi in reverse singles and Mukund will face Adam Mundir. This match is expected to be very interesting.
