Visakhapatnam: After Delhi Capitals’ 106-run loss to KKR, head coach Ricky Ponting said he felt embarrassed after seeing his team’s performance in the first half of the match. At the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Wednesday evening, Sunil Narine (85), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54), Andre Russell (41) and Rinku Singh (26) played stormy innings. On the basis of these innings, KKR scored 272 runs at the loss of 7 wickets.

Ponting said, ‘It is very difficult to assess this defeat right now. I was almost embarrassed for the first half of the match. Gave so many runs and bowled 17 wides. It took us two hours to even bowl our overs, so we were two overs behind, which meant the guys bowling the last two overs had to bowl with only four fielders outside the circle. ‘There were a lot of things that happened in this match that were unacceptable and there are a lot of things that we will talk about as a group that need to be fixed immediately to move forward in the competition.’

The team was also disappointed that captain Rishabh Pant did not seek a review on appeals against Narine and KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, despite replays showing that they could have been out. Also, some flaws were seen in Pant’s captaincy, which also included not using Akshar Patel properly. Not only this, Pant has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate in Wednesday’s match, which is his second offense in the tournament.
