East Baghdad Oil Field Project witnesses cooperation and development between China and Iraq – Dainik Savera Times

On the occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year, Chinese and Iraqi oil field producers at the East Baghdad Oil Field Project in Iraq celebrated the Spring Festival. In 2018, Zhenhua Petroleum’s East Baghdad Oil Field Project was officially launched. It is the first project independently undertaken by China’s petroleum company Zhenhua Petroleum and is also the first project operated by an international oil company in Iraq’s capital Baghdad.

Ma Cheng, general manager of East Baghdad Petroleum Company, has been involved in the development and construction of overseas oil and gas fields since 2014. From Egypt to Iraq, he has witnessed the “Belt and Road” foreign energy cooperation from its inception to its development over the past ten years. He said that as a part of China-Iraq energy cooperation, the oil products produced by the East Baghdad oil field have made a significant contribution to meeting the daily consumption and electricity supply in the Iraqi capital region. The greatest importance of this oil field for the Iraqi capital is to meet the economic needs of the capital and can more effectively support the economic development of Baghdad.

In recent years, the security situation in eastern Baghdad has stabilized. Wang Dongwei, deputy general manager of East Baghdad Petroleum Company, has been deployed in the East Baghdad oil field since April 2019 and has witnessed significant changes in the local situation. He said that the local employment and social environment has also improved due to the operation of our company in recent years.

In addition to introducing Chinese technology to Iraq, Chinese oil companies represented by Zhenhua Petroleum contribute to the local society, actively fulfilling their social responsibilities and paying great attention to the development of local education.
