Former English cricketer Ian Bell’s statement on the new rules of IPL came out, said – this is a fair rule

BCCI has announced the IPL Player Regulations 2025-27 ahead of the mega auction to be held in 2025. Former England cricket Ian Bell shared his views on the new rules, claiming that it is fair but there needs to be a balance. After the introduction of new rules of IPL, the discussion regarding the tournament has intensified. The matter of which player the team will retain and who not will become quite exciting. However, the biggest change in this is regarding the change in the rules regarding foreign players. Former English cricketer Ian Bell’s statement on these rules has also come to light.

Ian Bell said, it is a fair rule. If you are selected in the auction and then you don’t turn up then it is wrong because teams make a strategy, recruit specific players and then stabilize it if the player doesn’t turn up, which is quite a hassle. There is no doubt that IPL is the best place to play, but all players also want to represent their country. But I do not agree with the new rules.

According to the new IPL player regulations, any foreign player will have to register for the big auction. If the foreign player does not register, he will be ineligible for the next year’s player auction. Also, any player who registers for the player auction and after being selected in the auction, makes himself unavailable before the start of the season, will be banned from participating in tournaments and player auctions for 2 seasons .

Bell retired from cricket in 2020 and has now moved into a coaching role. Bell was appointed the batting coach of the Sri Lanka national team for the tour against England in August 2024. While in charge with Sri Lanka, Bell has also worked with the England men’s Under-19 and England Lions teams, the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League and was the assistant coach of the New Zealand men’s team ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
