India-made cough syrup was allegedly blamed for the deaths of 66 and 18 children, respectively, after consuming cough syrup in Gambia and Uzbekistan last year. The DCGI on Wednesday wrote to drug controllers and central laboratories of Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand in this regard.
As per the letter, “State Drug Controllers are requested to arrange their State owned NABL accredited laboratories for analysis of samples received from manufacturers of cough syrup for export purpose on top priority and issue test reports at the earliest.” Give instructions.” Cough syrups worth $17 billion were exported from India in the financial year 2021-22 and this amount increased to $17.6 billion in 2022-23.
