Green Field Expressway in Punjab

Green Field Expressway in Punjab

Punjab Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua, after a meeting with officials of National Highway Authority of India, PWD, Railways and District Magistrates of various districts of the state, said about the sanctioned roads being built in the state that the speed of Punjab is going to increase. The road projects sanctioned by the Center will not only lead to industrial development of the state, but the common people will also get great relief from their completion. Due to its proximity to the border, the greenfield and brown-field expressways to be built in Punjab will also prove to be very helpful from the military point of view. Due to the construction of new roads, the farmers will get compensation of about Rs 15,000 crore. Not only this, about 40 thousand crore rupees will be spent on the construction of the new expressway.

It may be noted that 15 green-field expressways are being constructed in the state. Their total length is 1173 km. Similarly, 9 Brownfield Expressways are also being constructed, whose length is 436 km. These include the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. This is the dream project of Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. Haryana and Punjab are to benefit the most from this expressway. A large area of Jammu will also be covered in this. Apart from religious travel, this expressway is considered very important from the military point of view. Similarly, work is going on on Amritsar to Bathinda, Ludhiana to Bathinda, Mohali to Bathinda, Ludhiana-Ropar. The bypass of Jalandhar-Amritsar, Mohali and Ludhiana will also change the picture of these cities. The Chief Secretary instructed the officers that traffic arrangements should be made on the new routes keeping in view the local needs, so that the people do not face any kind of problem. He directed the officers to complete the works of national highways and railway projects to be constructed in Punjab at the earliest. The duty of the DC has been imposed to complete the works related to land acquisition for new projects soon. There should not be any delay in this. The Chief Secretary reviewed the district-wise projects and asked the officers to work in a time-bound manner. The Punjab government has decided to construct a new forty feet wide bridge on Abohar canal branch in Akhara village of Jagraon constituency. It will cost Rs 7 crore 80 lakh. According to PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, this was being demanded by the people for a long time. The existing bridge is very tight. Because of this, accidents keep happening. A new bridge will be built under the NABARD scheme.

Roads have as much importance in the development of the state as in the flow of blood in the intestines, if the blood flow is not equal in the body, then the body stumbles, similarly the development of the state also depends on the condition of the roads. Realizing the importance of roads, Union Minister Gadkari has started work on projects to build new expressways along with expediting the construction of roads across the country. The expressways being built for the development of the state and the country work to reduce the distance between big cities and connect them with each other, but on the other hand, they also increase the problems of those people. The governments of the state and the country need to think about their difficulties, not car-riders, but pedestrians and cyclists.

The problem of going from PAP Chowk to Amritsar on the Jalandhar-Amritsar Highway continues even today. Amritsar is boarded on the road after traveling five kilometers. Another major problem with highways is that while they connect big cities, they become dividing lines for the people living in the neighbourhood. People living in the cities situated on the Delhi to Amritsar Highway have difficulty in crossing the road. The distance of the people living across the road has increased due to the highway. Similar is the condition of people living in cities adjoining other expressways of the country.

It is necessary to have a strong infrastructure of the state and the country, but due to these highways, the problems of the general public, especially those who do not have a car, and the distance between the people living across the road should not increase, keeping the above things in mind. Expressway should be constructed.
