At the Hockey India 5th Annual Awards 2022 held in New Delhi, young midfielder Hardik Singh and veteran women’s goalkeeper Savita were awarded the Balbir Singh Senior Awards for the male and female players of the year 2022. Both the winners received a trophy and INR 25.00 Lakh cash prize.

The function began with felicitating the awardees for 2021 and 2022. Indian men’s hockey team legend Amit Singh Bakshi received the Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award for the men’s and women’s categories for 2021 respectively, while Harmanpreet Singh and Savita won the Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year.

Milestone awards were presented to athletes who achieved significant milestones during the past year, including Manpreet Singh, Rani, Navjot Kaur, Mandeep Singh, Neha, Navneet Kaur, Lalremsiami, Harmanpreet Singh and Karthi Selvam. Umpire Javed Sheikh was honored for officiating in his 150th senior international match.

The Indian women’s hockey team and junior men’s team were awarded cash prizes for their victories at the FIH Women’s Nations Cup Spain 2022 and Sultan of Johor Cup 2022 respectively.

Other annual award winners included Pritam Siwach, Krishna B Pathak, Harmanpreet Singh, Sushila Chanu Pokhrambam, Vandana Katariya, Mumtaz Khan and Uttam Singh. Each of these awards carried a cash prize and a trophy.

Gurbaksh Singh received the final award of the day, Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 for his outstanding contribution to Hockey.
