On 25 May, Imran Khan alleged on Twitter that the Pakistan government was trying to eliminate the party. He tweeted that today the biggest and only federal party is facing the full wrath of state power without any accountability. Over 10,000 PTI workers and supporters including the senior leadership are in jail and some are facing custodial torture. In one of his earlier addresses, Imran Khan had said that he is ready to set up a committee to hold talks with whoever is in power today. Violent protests erupted after Khan’s arrest by paramilitary Rangers on 9 May.

Imran Khan is facing criticism for his involvement in widespread violence involving PTI supporters earlier this month. Mobs attacked several military installations, including the army headquarters in Rawalpindi. Police put the death toll in the violent clashes at 10.
