Bangladesh had scored 107 runs for three wickets on the rain-affected first day. But then the game could not be played for the next two days. On the fourth day of the match, Indian bowlers bowled out Bangladesh for 233 runs. After this, India batted in T20 style with a very fast pace and declared its first innings by scoring 285 runs for 9 wickets. India got a lead of 52 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took 3-3 wickets and bundled out Bangladesh for 146 runs in just 47 overs in the second innings, giving India the target of 95 runs in 62 overs to win.
On the last day, till drinks in the first session, Bangladesh had lost only one wicket but in the second phase, Indian bowlers took seven wickets. Apart from the pair of Jadeja and Bumrah, Akash Deep also took the important wicket of Shadman (50) as he was playing after scoring a half-century. It was another exciting session and India won it easily. Ashwin struck early and dismissed first innings centurion Mominul Haq (2) cheaply. Shadman Islam and captain Nazmul Shanto showed good resistance; Mixing caution and aggression and scored a 50 plus partnership in a short space of time. But the Bangladesh captain’s wrong reverse sweep against Jadeja led to the fall of wickets.
They reached 94/7 from 91/3 after Jadeja dismissed three and Akash Deep dismissed Shadman. Bumrah made a comeback and took some wickets and restricted the visiting team to 146 runs in the second innings. Bumrah took three wickets for 17 runs in 10 overs, Ashwin took three wickets for 50 runs in 15 overs and Jadeja played an important role in defeating Bangladesh by taking three wickets for 34 runs in 10 overs. Akash Deep got one wicket for 20 runs in eight overs. In the two-Test series, India appeared to be in some trouble only in the first two sessions of the first Test, but after that, India did not allow Bangladesh to make a comeback. This is India’s second biggest win in terms of overs. India won this match by playing only 52 overs.
