Sundar made a comeback
After winning the toss and electing to field, the Indian bowlers failed to bowl in the right direction, allowing Conway and Phil Allen to get New Zealand off to a brisk start. Both shared a 43-run partnership in 4.2 overs, with Allen being more aggressive. He hit four fours and two sixes in his 23-ball innings. Allen hit a six on the first ball of Washington Sundar’s fifth over, but Suryakumar Yadav was caught in the act of doing so again. Sundar brought India back into the match with the wicket of Mark Chapman (0) in the same over.
27 runs scored in the last over
Conway took the pressure off the team by hitting two fours and a six against Umran. New Zealand had scored 79 runs for two wickets in 10 overs. However, Glenn Phillips failed to read Kuldeep’s googly and was caught by Suryakumar at deep midwicket. Daryl Mitchell then arrived to support Conway. Conway completed his half-century in the 16th over, but soon returned to the pavilion after being caught by Hooda off the bowling of Arshdeep. Ishan Kishan then ran out Michael Bracewell (one run) while Mitchell Santner had Rahul Tripathi caught by Shivam Mavi. The last over was costly for the Indian team in which Arshdeep spent 27 runs.
Stormy innings of Mitchell and Conway
Mitchell hit three fours and five sixes in his 30-ball unbeaten knock, which included a four in the last over after hitting a hat-trick six against Arshdeep Singh. New Zealand collect 27 runs from this over. Opener Conway, who scored an innings of 138 runs in the third match of the ODI series, continued his excellent form, scoring 52 runs in 35 balls with the help of seven fours and a six.
Three wickets fell in four overs
The Indian team also lost three wickets in the first four overs. Ishaan Kishan (4) second, Rahul Tripathi (0) third and Shubman Gill were dismissed in the fourth over. Gill, who did wonders in the ODI series, got out after scoring only 7 runs. His wicket was taken by Mitchell Santner. After falling three wickets for 15 runs, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya handled the innings. There was a 68-run partnership between the two for the fourth wicket.
Surya was moving towards Fifty but became the victim of Ish Sodhi after scoring 47 runs in 34 balls. Surya hit 6 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. After this, Captain Hardik also returned to the pavilion after scoring 21 runs. Washington Sundar put up a fight in the lower order but it was not enough. An inning of 50 runs came off his bat in 28 balls. This is his first Fifty in T20 International. Deepak Hooda 10 and Shivam Mavi got out after scoring 2 runs. Captain Santner took 2 wickets for just 11 runs in 4 overs for New Zealand. Bracewell also got two wickets.
