India has amazing depth in cricket, Under-19 final match will be interesting: De Villiers

johannesburg (Uttam Hindu News): Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers praised the Under-19 Indian team after their victory over hosts South Africa in the first semi-final. India reached the pinnacle final for the ninth time and fifth consecutive time after defeating Uday Saharan-led Proteas by two wickets on the way to a record sixth Under-19 World Cup title. Whereas, in the second semi-final, the Australian team led by Hugh Wiebgen defeated Pakistan by one wicket in a thrilling match. India will now face Australia in the title match on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to IANS, de Villiers expressed disappointment over South Africa’s defeat, but also praised the way the Indian team won the semi-finals.

He said, “Yes, I am keeping an eye on the Under-19 World Cup. There were two close semi-final matches. Especially the match between Australia and Pakistan was very exciting. “The Australians had nine wickets down but they managed to come back as they do in big moments.”

“Also the India-South Africa match was also close. Despite taking the first four wickets, South Africa failed to create pressure. India made a great comeback and won the semi-finals. This shows that India has amazing depth in cricket. The final between Australia and India will be interesting.”
