India-Pak relations can improve after elections in India: Defense Minister

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed hope that relations with the neighboring country will improve after the general elections in India. A few days before Asif’s remarks, India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had said in Singapore that Pakistan is sponsoring terrorism on an almost ‘industrial level’ and India is no longer in the mood to ignore terrorists, hence it ‘will no longer ignore this problem.’

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House in Islamabad, Asif said on Monday, “Our relations with India can improve after the elections.” He said that bilateral relations between the two countries have their own ‘background’. Talking about Afghanistan, Defense Minister Asif said that he visited Afghanistan with a high-level delegation and requested the Taliban government there to take effective steps to stop terrorism. Asif said the solution proposed by Kabul is not practically possible.
