Indian captain Uday Saharan looked quite disappointed after this defeat in the final match. He believes that his team could not implement the strategy it had made. India captain Uday Saharan admitted that his batsmen faltered by playing wrong shots and failing to perform in the men’s Under-19 World Cup final against Australia, which led to their 79-run defeat.
Before the title match on Sunday, both India and Australia were unbeaten in the entire competition. For Australia, who came to bat first, Harjas Singh, Harry Dixon, captain and Oliver Peak batted well and took the team to the score of 253/8 runs in 50 overs. In response, defending champion India suffered initial setbacks. By the 20th over, they lost 4 wickets for just 68 runs.
Left-hander Adarsh Singh (47) and lower-order batting all-rounder Murugan Abhishek (42) took over the Indian innings, but it was not enough. The Indian team was reduced to just 174 runs in 43.5 overs. India had to face defeat by 79 runs in the final match.
After the defeat, Saharan said, “It was a very good tournament. I am proud of my players. He showed a great game. He presented a brilliant example of his passion from the very beginning. However, we lagged a little behind in the final match. “We played some poor shots and failed to spend much time at the crease. We had prepared well but we could not execute our strategy.”
Saharan was the leading run scorer of the competition. He scored 397 runs in seven matches at an average of 56.71, which included one century and three fifties. He said that he wants to learn from this competition to move ahead in his cricket career.
Saharan said, “There has been a lot to learn from the beginning till now. I have learned a lot from the staff. I just want to learn all the lessons from this tournament and move forward.”
