The Indian men’s hockey team’s poor show in the European leg of the FIH Pro League continued on Saturday as they went down 2-4 to Great Britain in their second match. This is the second consecutive defeat of the Indian team. Great Britain scored three field goals while India scored both of their goals from penalty corners. Nurses Timothy (6th minute), Sorsby Thomas (31st), Morton Lee (33rd) and Benduras Nicolas (53rd) scored for Great Britain. Harmanpreet Singh (13th and 42nd minutes) scored both the goals for India. In this way, Harmanpreet has made a record of scoring the most goals in the Pro League with 35 goals.

This is India’s second consecutive defeat in the European leg of this tour. The Indian team lost 1-2 to Belgium in their first match on Friday due to a last minute goal. Nurse scored his first goal at senior level to give United the lead. He reached the Indian circle by tricking Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Mandeep Mor. Indian goalkeeper Krishna Bahadur Pathak had no answer for his scintillating shot. Pathak initially replaced PR Sreejesh as the goalkeeper.

The British team displayed aggression while the Indian team struggled to match them. After scoring United’s first goal, another move was made but Pathak cleared Sam Ward’s effort. India got a penalty corner in the 13th minute which Harmanpreet made no mistake in converting. After scoring the equalizing goal, the confidence of the Indians increased. India also scored a goal in the second quarter but it was disallowed after video referral. Meanwhile, Wallace Zachary’s penalty stroke was well saved by Sreejesh. Sorsby, however, scored a penalty corner to give United the lead in the third quarter. Lee also kicked a field goal in this quarter. Before this match, both India and Great Britain were at the top of the table with 19 points each but after Saturday’s win, the British team has consolidated its position.
