Indian origin man who murdered his wife in London will be sentenced on April 26

London (Uttam Hindu News): A 24-year-old man of Indian origin has confessed to the crime of stabbing his 19-year-old wife to death in London in October last year. Croydon resident Sahil Sharma appeared at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, where he admitted murdering Mehak Sharma of Gurdaspur, Punjab. The Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Saturday that the accused, Sahil Sharma, will be sentenced at the same court on April 26.

On October 29, 2023, Sahil dialed 999 and told the police operator that he had murdered his wife in their home on Ash Tree Way. Upon arrival, officers found Mehak unconscious and with serious stab wounds to her neck, and despite the efforts of doctors at the scene, she was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later. The post-mortem test conducted on October 31, 2023, found that Mehak died due to a knife wound on her neck.

Detective Inspector Laura Semple, from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “A family has been devastated by Sahil Sharma’s actions. By killing his wife, he has taken away a beloved daughter from her family, for reasons only he knows.” Semple said, “I am glad that Mehak Sharma’s loved ones will no longer have to worry about getting justice, but it is true that nothing can replace the loss they have suffered.”

Mehak’s body was taken to her native Jogi Cheema village in Punjab in December 2023 for the last rites. According to media reports, Mehak’s mother had accused Sahil of harassing, threatening and physically abusing her daughter in London. Detective Inspector Semple said, “Mehak was killed in her own home, where she should have been safest, by the very person who should have been protecting her. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones today.”
