New Delhi . Intermittent fasting, which is called Antaryak Upvas in Hindi, can reduce the problems of people suffering from heart disease and diabetes to a great extent. According to a study, blood sugar can be controlled by keeping a gap of 10 hours in your meals every day.

Keeping a gap of 10 hours between two meals is a type of intermittent fasting. It can also help in managing your metabolic syndrome. Now what is this metabolic syndrome? So this is a medical condition that can make you a heart patient or cause diabetes and stroke.

The risk factors responsible for the syndrome include high blood sugar, high BP (high blood pressure) and high cholesterol. And all these major factors are not good for the heart.

This study was conducted under the leadership of University of California San Diego and Salk Institute in America. The researchers said the findings could help people who are concerned about their metabolic syndrome and want to reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes.

The trial stage report was published online in Annals of Internal Medicine. According to the report, 108 adult patients with metabolic syndrome were divided into either a time-restricted diet group and a control group.

Both groups were given treatment as per the prescribed standard and were explained the nutritional benefits of Mediterranean diet (diet like fruits, vegetables, fish).

Everyone in the time-restricted diet group had to limit their eating by 10 hours, starting at least an hour after waking up and ending at least three hours before bedtime.

After three months, patients who followed the time-restricted diet as prescribed showed significant improvements in heart health.

Professor Sachchidanand Panda of Salk Institute said that time of day plays an important role in the processing of sugar and fat in the human body.

The researchers said intermittent fasting played an important role in helping people lose body weight, maintain an appropriate body mass index (BMI) and manage abdominal trunk fat (a type of fat that is linked to metabolic disease).
