Two Egyptian officials and a Western diplomat said Egypt had warned it would suspend its peace deal with Israel if Israeli troops were sent to Rafah.

US President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday that Israel should not launch a military operation in Gaza’s densely populated Rafah city without a “concrete” plan to protect civilians. The White House gave this information.

Two Egyptian officials and a Western diplomat said Egypt had warned it would suspend its peace deal with Israel if Israeli troops were sent to Rafah.

After Egypt’s warning, talks took place between Biden and Netanyahu. Netanyahu said a few days ago that he had instructed the army to prepare a plan to evacuate people from the city of Rafah in southern Gaza before a possible Israeli offensive.
