Mumbai | India’s stand-in captain Hardik Pandya lauded the batting efforts of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who were instrumental in their five-wicket win against Australia in the first ODI, saying it was heartening to watch them bat like that.

Rahul has lost his vice-captaincy in Test cricket and was ruled out of the third and fourth Tests against Australia. He scored an unbeaten 75 to rescue India from a precarious 83/5 in 19.2 overs and shared an unbeaten 108-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Jadeja. Jadeja scored an unbeaten 45 runs.

Hardik said, “We came under pressure for once in both bowling and batting but we maintained our composure. I knew that once we got the situation under control, the way forward would be easy for us. Jadeja and Shubman both took good catches during the over. That’s what you have to do.”

Ravindra Jadeja was given the Player of the Match award. He said, “This format is very different compared to Test match but I was trying to hit the right spots and this strategy worked for me. Me and KL kept talking to each other that we should play like this. Have to go.”(IANS)
