‘Jawaan’ beats the earnings of ‘Gadar-2’ in 9 days, becomes number 2 film of 2023

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Without any doubt, 2023 is the year of Shahrukh Khan. Now the question is whether Rajkumar Hirani’s immigration saga ‘Dinky’ will help the King of Bollywood score a hat-trick. In fact, Tamil director Atlee’s vigilante action film ‘Javaan’ starring SRK, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi has become the second biggest hit of the year in just nine days. The film has crossed the box office collection of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s ‘Gadar 2’. This year, Shahrukh Khan’s two films ‘Pathan’ and ‘Jawaan’ have been superhits and have done great business.
After collecting gross collections of Rs 21.90 crore and Rs 20.20 crore (including 18 per cent GST) on the eighth and ninth day respectively, ‘Jawaan’ has earned Rs 696 crore worldwide. According to Bollywood Hungama, in comparison, ‘Gadar 2’ has earned Rs 679.69 crore (domestic box office Rs 615.81 crore) on the 35th day.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala said that if ‘Jawaan’, like ‘Pathan’, joins the Rs 1,000 crore club, which is highly likely, it will definitely be a “rare event” for Hindi cinema.
He also said that the worldwide earnings of ‘Jawaan’ gave it the strength to overtake ‘Gadar 2’.
Karan Taurani of Elara Capital points out that ‘Javaan’ has no real competition in the near future. The next Hindi releases (scheduled for September 28) are ‘Fukrey 3’, which has a niche audience, and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s ‘The Vaccine War’.
Karan Taurani said that the promotion of ‘Jawaan’ may slow down a bit till September 28, but the new release will not have much impact. He said that Vivek Agnihotri’s popularity after ‘The Kashmir Files’ can make ‘The Vaccine War’ a strong contender.
Bala, who keeps a close eye on the southern market, says the worldwide gross receipts of ‘Jawaan’ will cross Rs 750 crore in the coming weekend. Net collections (minus GST) in the South will reach Rs 400 crore.
He estimates that by the third week the worldwide collection of the film will exceed Rs 900-1,000 crore. If the film is liked in the cinema halls of Japan, China and Russia, the total earning will increase further.
