There has been a change of power in Sri Lanka. Anura Kumara Dissanayake took office as the new President on 23 September. India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is going to visit Sri Lanka. His visit to Colombo will be the first by any foreign minister after the presidential elections last month. Jaishankar’s visit to Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin from October 4. After Dissanayake coming to power, it is being considered very important for taking forward the relations between India and Sri Lanka.

The Indian government is hoping to extend its reach to Dissanayake over the past 12 months through Jaishankar’s visit to Sri Lanka, in which he visited New Delhi earlier this year.

Whereas in Sri Lanka, after the formation of the new government of the National People’s Power (NPP) coalition, the first meeting of the country’s smallest cabinet till date was held, in which only three ministers participated. President Dissanayake had formed a Cabinet of four members, including himself, before dissolving Parliament last week. Parliamentary elections will be held on November 14 to elect 225 members of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
