The earthquake in Taiwan has caused huge devastation. Along with this earthquake, a tsunami warning has also been issued. An earthquake of 7.2 magnitude has occurred in Taiwan, due to which many buildings were damaged.

It is noteworthy that Taiwan is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquakes and volcanic activities are very frequent. In such a situation, the people living here always live under the threat of earthquake. Let us tell you that Taiwan is a country situated on the complex arrangement of tectonic plates. It also has a large tectonic plate boundary. In Taiwan is the Ryukyu Trench, near which the Philippine Sea Plate is subducting beneath the Eurasian Plate. The Eurasian Plate is subducting beneath the Philippine Sea Plate near the Manila Trench. Taiwan is such an island which has three layers sandwiched under the ground.

In such a situation, if there is any movement in one plate, it affects both the surfaces. In such a situation, small earthquakes are quite common. At the same time, when a big earthquake occurs, the pressure behind it causes the tectonic plates to slide, rub, climb up and down on each other, sink or break. Scientists have found two reverse faults beneath Taiwan. In this, one fault is towards Livu River and the other is from north to south.

Both the faults are connected at a depth of 10 kilometers in the sea, due to which a curved structure is formed. There is a Meilun fault at this place, due to which an earthquake of 7.3 magnitude occurred in the year 1951. This fault has become active after many years. It is disturbing the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate. There is a possibility that due to this reason an earthquake of such high intensity has occurred again.
