  • 1 cup sama rice
  • 1/2 cup curd
  • 1 tsp ginger green chilli paste
  • 1 tsp rock salt
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tsp eno (if required)
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1/2 cup water

1. First of all, wash the Sama rice thoroughly and soak it for 1-2 hours so that the rice becomes soft.

2. Add some water to the soaked rice and grind it coarsely in a mixer. Keep in mind that the paste should not be too thin.

3. Add curd, ginger green chilli paste, rock salt (fasting salt) to the ground rice and mix well. Keep this mixture covered for 15-20 minutes so that it ferments.

4. Add some Eno to the mixture and mix well so that the mixture swells. Use of these is optional for Navratri fast.

5. Now apply some oil in a dhokla mold and pour the mixture. Steam the mold in a pressure cooker or steamer for 15-20 minutes.

6. Heat oil in a small pan. Make tadka by adding cumin seeds, sesame seeds and some curry leaves and pour it on the cooked dhokla.

7. Cut the prepared dhokla into small pieces and serve it with coconut chutney or green coriander chutney.
