Massive fire breaks out in Sydney buildings, two teenagers surrender themselves to the police

Sydney (Best Hindu News): Police in Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) state on Friday confirmed that two 13-year-old schoolboys turned themselves in to police after a massive fire in central Sydney.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of the NSW Police Force, Paul Dunstan told a news conference this morning that we have information of a group of youths who were seen fleeing the scene of the fire shortly after 4pm on Thursday. Dunstan said the two 13-year-olds handed themselves in at two different police stations late on Thursday and are now assisting police with enquiries.

Jeremy Feutrell, acting commissioner of Fire and Rescue NSW, also provided reporters with the latest information on the blaze, which broke out at a multi-storey building in Surry Hills at around 4pm local time (1800 GMT) on Thursday. And it was upgraded to 10th alarm status, the most serious type of fire incident.

Mr Feutrell said the fire caused extensive damage to two buildings and caused significant structural damage.

The officiating commissioner said that dousing the fire was very challenging due to the debris of the collapsed buildings. He said that we are continuing to wet the site of arson and this will continue for some time so that the fire can be finally extinguished there.
