New Delhi. New Zealand spin bowling all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement for the injured Will Jaques. Jacques suffered this injury during England’s tour of Bangladesh and was ruled out of the IPL.

Jacques was bought by Bangalore for Rs 3.2 crore, although Bracewell will get his base price of Rs 1 crore. At the same time, Rachin Ravindra has been called in place of Bracewell in the New Zealand team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said it was important for Bracewell to play in the IPL with the ODI World Cup in India this year. “Playing in the IPL will get Bracewell used to Indian conditions and that could benefit us in the World Cup,” he added.

Bracewell has played seven Tests, 19 ODIs and 16 T20Is for New Zealand. In 117 T20 matches, he has 2284 runs at a strike rate of 133, while he also has 40 wickets at an economy of 6.52.

Bengaluru’s first match is against Mumbai Indians on April 2 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This will be their first home match after 2019.(IANS)
