India’s efforts against doping suffered a setback in 2019 when the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) imposed a six-month suspension on the NDTL. The WADA team found that the lab was not up to international standards. The suspension was lifted in December 2021 following a request from the then Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. Sahu said, “It’s been a long time since then and now NDTL is ready for a complete transformation.” Delayed due to Sahu said that the target is to test more than six thousand samples annually.
