Now ADAS safety feature will be mandatory in every car! Center brought proposal to reduce the number of accidents

Various automobile manufacturers in India provide ADAS functionality in cars like Hyundai, MG, Mahindra, Tata and many others.

It helps drivers by using components like sensors and cameras to spot obstacles or make mistakes while driving. It then automatically takes action to keep you and others safe on the road, without any human intervention. There is news coming out that the Indian government is planning to make it mandatory to include ADAS in all the upcoming cars.
Proposal of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed to install ‘Moving of Information System’ (MOIS) for certain types of vehicles. The ministry aims to make safety features like ‘blind spot monitoring’ mandatory for all types of vehicles whether for personal use or commercial purposes. Apart from this, MoRTH is also suggesting to include collision warning system as a standard feature in cars.
The main goal here is to reduce the likelihood of accidents among vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. ADAS available only in top model cars
The inclusion of ADAS suite has become quite popular in India currently as many car manufacturers are including this feature in their top tier models. If the new proposal becomes a rule, we could see Level 1 ADAS becoming a standard feature in all cars in India. However, this will also result in a slight increase in vehicle prices in India. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is looking at the bigger picture here, with the main objective being to halve the number of accidents and deaths due to road accidents by 2024.
Focus on reducing road accidents
This push for safer roads comes after a 12% increase in road accidents in India. In 2022, more than 4.6 lakh accidents occurred and unfortunately every hour 19 people died tragically due to road accidents. Government statistics show that most of these accidents are caused by situations like rear-end collisions, hit-and-run incidents and head-on collisions. Of these, accidents related to blind spot or rear collision are the most common. Therefore, incorporating ADAS as standard in cars will help prevent such fatal incidents.
