New Delhi. ChatGPIT creator OpenAI is currently generating around 100 billion words per day. This was revealed by co-founder and CEO Sam Altman on Saturday. He is looking for trillions of dollars to reshape the future of chips and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In a post on X, Altman said that for humanity to generate the large numbers of words they need more graphics-processing units (GPUs).

“OpenAI now generates about 100 billion words per day,” he said. All people on Earth produce approximately 100 trillion words per day.’

To reach that massive level, we need more GPUs.

When a follower asked him how many GPUs $7 trillion could buy, Altman replied: “Probably a lot of GPUs.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Altman is in talks with investors including the UAE government to fund a technology initiative that will boost the world’s chip-manufacturing capacity.

Citing sources, the report said, ‘The project may require raising $5 trillion to $7 trillion.’

Global sales of chips were $527 billion last year and are expected to grow to $1 trillion annually by 2030.

Late last month, Altman visited South Korea to discuss ways to establish a global network for AI chip manufacturing with major chipmakers there.

South Korean chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are two of the few companies in the world that produce premium high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips designed for AI processors. Their combined market share in the global HBM market has reached more than 90 percent.
