Islamabad. Firdous Ashiq Awan, a senior leader of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, resigned on Friday. He resigned amid the ongoing government crackdown on the opposition over the May 9 violence. .

Awan, 53, who served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting from 2019 to 2020, said that now former Prime Minister Khan and Pakistan have parted ways.Imran Khan was arrested by Pakistan Rangers on May 9. After leaving, violent demonstrations had started in Pakistan.

His party workers vandalized about a dozen military establishments. The army headquarters in Rawalpindi was also attacked by the mob. Police put the death toll in the violent clashes at 10. Former federal minister Awan said she was parting ways with PTI because of the party’s violent and terrorist activities, Dawn newspaper reported.

In a jolt to Khan, his close aide and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry resigned from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on Wednesday. A day before this, former Pakistan minister and Imran Khan’s close aide Shireen Mazari left PTI.
