Pakistan’s top advisor participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting held in New Delhi through online medium. However, Islamabad has not yet clarified its position on sending its delegation for the high-level meetings of the organization. India currently holds the presidency of the SCO, which has China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as members.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in her weekly press conference on Friday that On Chaudhary, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Tourism and Sports, represented Pakistan at the SCO Heads of Tourism Administration meeting through online medium. “As an active member of the SCO, Pakistan will continue to participate in the activities of the organization and contribute positively to its outcome,” he said.

Significantly, the meeting of the SCO foreign ministers is to be held in Goa in May, while the meeting of the defense ministers of the organization is to be held in Delhi in the month of April. When asked about Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari going to India to represent Pakistan at the highest level in the SCO meeting, he said it would be announced at an appropriate time.
