Raman Vijayan will be the assistant coach of Chennaiyin FC

Chennai : Chennaiyin FC (CFC) on Friday appointed former India striker Raman Vijayan as the assistant coach of the team. The 49-year-old Vijayan, who hails from Tamil Nadu with a lot of experience, will join Chennaiyin FC as head coach Thomas Brederick and the rest of the coaching staff. Commenting on Vijayan’s appointment, Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani said, “We are extremely pleased to have Raman Vijayan join the team. His talent to connect and hone combined with Vijayan’s managerial experience will prove to be of great value to CFC.”

Vijayan had earlier worked with Delhi Dynamos during the 2015–16 season of the Indian Super League. He has also held key managerial roles with Chennai FC, Chennai United and South United from Bengaluru. Expressing his excitement over his new role as CFC Assistant Coach, Vijayan said, “I am delighted to be a part of the Chennaiyin family. Being a local sportsperson myself, it is a great honor to work with CFC. My aim is to set and achieve long-term goals, especially team development at the grassroots level. For me, it is most important to nurture the talent of young players and strengthen the players at the grassroots level. Every year we should bring in more and more talent and it should be important for us to make players a part of the main team. This will be our main aim in the coming years.

We will have proper scouting and structural planning to bring forward more and more local talent from Tamil Nadu, he added. Apart from making 30 international appearances, Vijian also represented some of the country’s top clubs during his illustrious professional career before making a successful transition into coaching. Which includes East Bengal, Mohammedan SC, Dempo SC, FC Cochin and Mahindra United. The National Football League was one of only two top Indian goal scorers along with Vijayan Bhaichung Bhutia in its 11-year existence as the I-League in 2007. Chennaiyin FC is currently preparing for the Hero Super Cup 2023, where it will open its playing campaign against Northeast United in Kerala on 11 April.
