Retail inflation for industrial workers steady at 6.16 per cent in February

The Labor Bureau said in a statement, “The inflation rate last month remained stable at 6.16 percent as compared to 6.16 percent in January, 2023.” Whereas a year ago in the same month i.e. February 2022, the inflation rate was 5.04 percent.

Retail inflation for industrial workers remained steady at 6.16 per cent in February compared to the previous month. The Labor Bureau said in a statement, “The inflation rate last month remained stable at 6.16 percent as compared to 6.16 percent in January, 2023.” Whereas a year ago in the same month i.e. February 2022, the inflation rate was 5.04 percent. It has been said that the inflation rate of food items was 6.13 percent. It was 5.69 percent in the month of January and 5.09 percent during February, 2022.

The Labor Bureau, attached to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, compiles the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) every month on the basis of retail prices collected from 317 markets spread over 88 industrially important centers in the country. This index is compiled for 88 centers and the country as a whole and is released on the last working day of the subsequent month. The All-India Consumer Price Index – Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) declined by 0.1 point to stand at 132.7 in February. In January 2023 it was 132.8 points.

The Food & Beverages group declined the most in the current index. It contributed 0.1 percentage point to the total change. The items contributing to the decrease in the index include Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brinjal, Carrot, Onion, Potato, Pea, French Bean, Drumstick, Quinoa, Grapes, Sunflower Oil, Soybean Oil, Mustard Oil etc. However, the sharp fall in rice, wheat, wheat flour, buffalo milk, cow milk, pure ghee etc. was curbed.
