Rupee rises by 11 paise at 83.42 per dollar in early trade

The rupee had closed at 83.53 against the US dollar on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s strength against six major currencies, was trading 0.05 per cent lower at 104.19. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.29 per cent higher at US$89.61 per barrel.

Mumbai The rupee rose by 11 paise to 83.42 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday. However, high crude oil prices and continued foreign fund outflows have affected investor sentiments, Forex traders said. The rupee opened at 83.44 per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. After this it slipped to 83.45 per dollar, however it soon made a comeback and reached 83.42 per dollar, which is an increase of 11 paise from the previous closing price.

The rupee had closed at 83.53 against the US dollar on Wednesday. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 2,213.56 crore on Wednesday.
