The rupee opened at 83.01 per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. After this it came to 82.99 per dollar, which is an increase of eight paise from the previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 83.07 against the US dollar on Friday.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which reflects the position of the US dollar against six major currencies, was down 0.07 percent at 104.03. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were down 0.51 per cent at US $ 81.77 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) had bought shares worth Rs 141.95 crore on Friday.
