Sam Altman’s return as OpenAI CEO closed: Report

San Francisco (Uttam Hindu News): Sam Altman will reportedly not be returning to OpenAI. Now former Twitch CEO Emmett Shearer is likely to be appointed as interim CEO at the ChatGPIT developer. According to the report, Altman will not take over as CEO of OpenAI, despite strong efforts by company executives to bring him back. OpenAI co-founder and board director Ilya Sutskever said Shear, co-founder of Amazon-owned video streaming site Twitch, will take over as interim CEO. Reports late Sunday said the decision could worsen the crisis caused by the board’s sudden ouster of Altman and removal of Chairman Greg Brockman from the board.
Employees walked out of OpenAI headquarters in San Francisco shortly after the decision was announced internally. It is believed that Shearer’s appointment has closed the door for Altman’s comeback. The board was in intense discussion over the weekend about Altman’s return. Altman returned to OpenAI’s office and said that this would be the first and last time he would wear the guest badge. This clearly meant that he would either return as CEO or never return.
The suspense over Altman’s return as OpenAI CEO continued on Monday as OpenAI leaders and investors called for Altman to be reinstated to the company. He was unceremoniously dismissed on 17 November. Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella is reportedly mediating the discussions between Altman, former OpenAI president Greg Brockman and current board members. “If no agreement is reached, things will take a different path,” he said, according to reports.
