shocking train accident

of Odisha The horrific train accident in Balasore is the biggest rail accident after independence. The Bangalore-Howrah Superfast Express, Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train were involved in the accident. According to South Eastern Railway (SER) spokesperson Aditya Chowdhary, the death toll in last Friday’s accident has risen to 275 and the injured are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Odisha. The accident took place around 7 pm on Friday near Bahanga Bazar station in Balasore district, about 250 km south of Kolkata. According to officials, apart from 1,200 personnel, 200 ambulances, 50 buses and 45 mobile health units are working at the accident site. Officials said the IAF has sent two helicopters with medical teams to evacuate the seriously injured passengers. Due to the accident, 48 trains were canceled and 39 were diverted.

Talking to reporters after inspecting the spot and meeting the injured in the hospital, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of the train accident. No one will be spared. The Prime Minister also said that we will provide best treatment to the injured. He also expressed his gratitude to the local people for their help in rescuing people, many of whom worked through the night. Modi said that I am grateful to the local people for all the help given to the train accident victims. Regarding the accident, he said, I have no words to express my pain. May God give us the strength to overcome this situation. According to officials, the prime minister asked them to ensure that all possible help is provided to the injured and their families. Modi also called for ensuring that no inconvenience is caused to the bereaved families and necessary assistance is provided to the affected. Apart from this, he also reviewed the relief and rescue operations.
Preliminary investigation into the gruesome rail accident in Odisha has revealed that the Coromandel Express train that crashed instead of the main route, instead of the main route, rammed into a stationary goods train just before Bahanga Bazar station. The coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express are also understood to have overturned after hitting the coaches of the damaged Coromandel Express on the adjacent track. Sources said the Coromandel Express had a speed of 128 kmph, while the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express had a speed of 166 kmph.

The report has been submitted to the Railway Board. It is noteworthy that ‘Loop Line’ is constructed in a station area and in this case it is Bahanaga Bazar station. Its purpose (of loop line) is to accommodate more trains to facilitate operations. The ‘loop line’ is usually 750 meters long so that the full section of a multiple engine goods train can come on it. There were around 2000 passengers in both the trains. At least 275 people died in the accident, while more than 1000 passengers were injured. Sources had earlier said that the accident might have happened due to signal failure. However, railway officials said it was not yet clear whether the Coromandel Express had traveled on the ‘Loop Line’ and hit the goods train, or it (Coromandel Express) derailed first and was on its way to the ‘Loop Line’. Later hit the goods train standing there. The preliminary inquiry report states that the signal was given and 12841 (Coromandel Express) departed on ‘Loop Line’. Meanwhile, 12864 (Howrah Superfast Express) came across the main road and two of its coaches derailed and overturned. Sudhanshu Mani, former general manager of Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, has prima facie denied any fault on the part of the two loco pilots involved in the accident.

The heart-wrenching train accident in Odisha’s Balasore has put the railway system in the dock. A committee has been formed to investigate the train accident, but the investigation should come within a time limit. Treatment of the injured and providing financial assistance to the families of the deceased should be the priority of the government. There should be no politics regarding the accident, rather helping the families of the injured and the dead should be the priority of all political parties.
