According to sources, licenses of 18 pharma companies have been canceled for production of spurious and adulterated medicines. In addition, show cause notices have been issued to 26 companies. Under the special drive, the regulator has identified 203 companies and most of the companies are in Himachal Pradesh (70), Uttarakhand (45) and Madhya Pradesh (23). Recently, questions have been raised about the quality of medicines manufactured by Indian companies. Questions on Indian medicines
Last year, child deaths in Gambia and Uzbekistan were linked to cough syrup made in India. Uzbekistan arrested three employees of a pharmaceutical company from Noida in connection with the death of 18 children last year. He was accused of making and selling adulterated medicine. The drug regulators of the Center and UP had checked the company’s products. 22 medicines of the company were found to be adulterated and spurious.
