States should make a long-term vision to make India a developed country: PM Modi

Addressing the eighth meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council on Saturday, Modi asked the states to take prudent financial decisions that meet the aspirations of the people. Giving information about the meeting of the Council, Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog BVR Subramaniam said that 11 Chief Ministers did not participate in it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked states and districts to prepare a long-term vision to make India a developed country by 2047. By the year 2047, India will complete 100 years of independence. Addressing the eighth meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council on Saturday, Modi asked the states to take prudent financial decisions that meet the aspirations of the people. Giving information about the meeting of the Council, Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog BVR Subramaniam said that 11 Chief Ministers did not participate in it. This was the first meeting which took place at the recently built convention center at Pragati Maidan.

The G-20 summit will be held in this convention center. Addressing the meeting of the council, the Prime Minister said, “For a developed India by 2047, it is necessary to align the vision of states and districts with the national vision.” Earlier, NITI Aayog had written on Twitter, “NITI Aayog In the eighth meeting of the Governing Council, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that when states grow, India grows. He stressed on the importance of developing a shared vision to achieve the goal of a developed India in 2047.

He said that this would make them financially strong and enable them to implement programs for the welfare of the citizens. “PM Modi urges states to take fiscally prudent decisions so that they become financially strong and run programs that fulfill the dreams of citizens,” the commission tweeted. In the eighth meeting, several issues including health, skill development, women empowerment and infrastructure development were discussed to make India a developed country by 2047.

The meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Modi. The meeting was attended by Union ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal as well as chief ministers of several states including Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. The chief ministers of West Bengal, Punjab and Delhi boycotted the meeting. Altogether the chief ministers of 11 states did not attend the meeting. Plenary meeting of the Council is held every year. Last year, this meeting was held under the chairmanship of Modi on August 7. The first meeting of the council was held on February 8, 2015. The meeting was not called in 2020 due to the Corona virus pandemic.
