Asuncion. Superstar Lionel Messi has said that he is yet to come to terms with Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Qatar.
The Argentina captain made the remarks during a ceremony in Paraguay’s capital Asuncion, Xinhua reported. At the ceremony, medals and trophies were presented to the Argentine players and coaching staff, the heroes of Argentina’s third World Cup victory.
“All the recognition we get as world champions, I still can’t digest what we’ve achieved,” Messi said.
Messi, 35, scored twice in the final against France and won the Golden Ball award for the best player of the tournament. He reiterated that he just wants to continue playing at the international level.
“I have achieved almost everything in football. Now I have to enjoy the things I have left,” said the Paris Saint-Germain star.
The ceremony took place four days after Argentina’s 2–0 victory in a friendly against Panama. It was Argentina’s first match since winning the World Cup in December.
Argentina have another friendly match against Curacao on Tuesday in Santiago del Estero.(IANS)
