Mumbai The local stock market opened with losses in early trade on Thursday amid a weak trend in global markets and talks on the US debt ceiling did not reach any conclusion.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 75.1 points to 61,698.68 in early trade. The National Stock Exchange’s Nifty opened at 18,254.35 points with a loss of 31.05 points. However, later the Sensex was trading at 61,748.32 points with a loss of 25.46 points. At the same time, the Nifty was at 18,270.05 points with a loss of 16.25 points.

Tata Motors, SBI, Mahindra & Mahindra, HCL Tech, Wipro, IndusInd Bank, HDFC, Tata Steel, TCS and Reliance Industries were among the losers in the Sensex pack, while ITC, Nestle, Kotak Bank and Bharti Airtel were among the gainers. In other Asian markets, South Korea’s Cospi, China’s Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hangseng were in the red, while Japan’s Nikkei was in the red.
