Top Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal has achieved a career-best ranking of 95th in the ATP singles rankings released on Monday, riding on his impressive performances in recent times. Nagal’s earlier best ranking was 97. He achieved this ranking after winning the ATP Challenger level competition Chennai Open in February.

Nagal made headlines in January by making it to the main draw of the Australian Open. He also became the first Indian to defeat a seeded player (Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan) in this event, but was eliminated by China’s Shang Juncheng in the second round. After the Chennai Open win, he also played two other Challenger tournaments apart from ATP 500 event (Dubai Championship) and ATP 1000 Masters (Indian Wells and Miami).

However, his best performance during this period was reaching the semi-finals of Bangalore Challenger. Nagal is currently preparing for the ‘Grand Prix Hassan Do’, an ATP 250 level event in Marrakesh, Morocco, where he will face France’s Corentin Moutet in the opening round.
