On March 21, the country’s Supreme Court awarded the death sentence to a man convicted of kidnapping and murdering a seven-year-old child in Tamil Nadu. Converting it to life imprisonment, said that the convict will have to serve a minimum sentence of 20 years. While pronouncing its order, the court remarked that only the son continues the lineage or becomes the support of the parents in their old age. These kinds of comments further the malevolent notion. Courts should avoid them. The constitutional courts cannot consider the situation more serious and worse just on the basis of the sex of the child (boy or girl). In the case of Tamil Nadu, the Supreme Court found that the court had sentenced the culprit to death, considering the abduction and murder of the only son out of four children (three daughters and one son) to be a more serious crime. In that the High Court had held that the motive behind kidnapping the only boy was to create maximum fear and anguish in the mind of the parents. The loss of an only son is extremely painful for the parents, as he carries on the family line and is expected to take care of them in old age. These things are extremely painful for the aggrieved party and are definitely more serious and worse situations. The Supreme Court, while quoting the above lines on the basis of more serious crime and poor condition given by the court in awarding the death sentence, said in its judgment that the constitutional courts should consider the condition worse only on the basis of the sex of the child (boy or girl). Cannot be considered serious and bad.

The comment of the court is right in its place, but the ground truth is that even today male-dominated thinking is dominant in the society and the boy starts getting more importance than the girl from the house-courtyard itself.

The other aspect of the picture is that there will hardly be any field in the country and the world where girls are lagging behind boys in making their mark with their passion and hard work – be it wrestling, boxing, fencing or shooting, including athletics, cricket and hockey. Girls are bringing glory to their parents in every game. Girls are successful in making their identity in every aspect of life including politics, economic military field. Before becoming the support of parents in their old age, girls are not behind in increasing the respect of parents, times and circumstances have changed. According to him, the society also has to change its thinking towards girls.

Men and women complement each other, moving forward with this vision is good for the society and the country. If you go deep into the observations of the Supreme Court of the country, you will find that boys and girls are the same.
