Suspense remains on the return of Sam Altman as CEO of OpenAI, talks continue at the final stage

San Francisco (Uttam Hindu News): The suspense over Sam Altman’s return as OpenAI CEO continued on Monday. Indeed, OpenAI leaders and investors demanded the return of Altman, who was unceremoniously fired on November 17, to the company. As The Verge reports, talks are ongoing between Altman and the company. It is being told that meanwhile, a big condition is that the current board (which had fired him from the job) will have to step down.
Altman once again set a deadline of 5 pm PT (6.30 am IST) on Sunday for the OpenAI board to resolve the situation. Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella is reportedly mediating discussions between Altman, former OpenAI president Greg Brockman and current board members. They are trying to select a new board. “If no agreement is reached, things will take a different path,” the report said.
OpenAI’s current board includes Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever, Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, former GeoSim Systems CEO Tasha McCauley, and Helen Toner, director of strategy at Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology.
According to reports, OpenAI co-founder Sutskever played a key role in ousting Altman. After Altman’s sudden dismissal created high-voltage drama, the OpenAI board began discussions with him about returning to the company as CEO. However, Altman, who was fired by the board over a video call, was at first “ambitious” about coming back and demanding major governance changes.
